# Find colleagues in the company directory (Global Address List)

> Open Contacts and select Global Address List to see every mailbox on your domain, ready to use when you compose a message.

Open the **Contacts** icon in the top bar and select the **Global Address List** folder, which sits next to your own **Contacts**. It lists every mailbox on your domain automatically, so you never have to add colleagues by hand.

## View the directory

1. Click the **Contacts** icon in the top bar.
2. In the left nav, select **Global Address List**. Each entry shows **Source: Global Address List** on its card.

3. Use the sort icon (next to **Select**) to order the list by **Display Name**, **Email** or **Company**, and choose **Ascending** or **Descending**.

   

## Admin note

**Domain Settings** > **User Defaults** has a **Show in Global Address List** toggle that sets the default for mailboxes, as described in [Set default settings for every new mailbox](/user-defaults/). **Propagate** applies the defaults to existing users. Admins can turn this off so shared or system mailboxes do not need to show up.

## Common issues

### I cannot find a colleague in the Global Address List. Why?

Their mailbox may be hidden from the directory. Ask your domain admin to check the Show in Global Address List setting in Domain Settings > User Defaults, or WhatsApp support.

### Can I add an outside contact, like a supplier, to the Global Address List?

No. The Global Address List only lists mailboxes on your own domain. For outside contacts, add them to your personal Contacts folder, or use Import contacts (/import-contacts/) to bring in a list.

### How do I stop a shared mailbox from showing up in the directory?

This is an admin setting, not something you can change from your own account. Your admin sets the default in Domain Settings > User Defaults by turning off Show in Global Address List, then uses Propagate to apply it to existing users. To change it for a single mailbox, WhatsApp support.
