# Use Outlook on the web with your Microsoft 365 account

Outlook on the web lets you read and send your Microsoft 365 work email in any browser, with nothing to install. Go to [outlook.office.com](https://outlook.office.com) and sign in with your work email address and password.

## Sign in

You need your work email address and password. If this is your first time, see [first sign-in](/m365-sign-in/) to set your own password.

1. Open [outlook.office.com](https://outlook.office.com) in your browser. You may be taken to an address ending in `outlook.cloud.microsoft`; that is Microsoft's newer address for the same page.
2. Type your work email address and select **Next**.
3. Type your password and select **Sign in**.
4. Approve the sign-in in the Authenticator app if your company uses it.
5. If asked **Stay signed in?**, choose **Yes** only on your own computer.

You can also open Outlook from the Microsoft 365 home page at [m365.cloud.microsoft](https://m365.cloud.microsoft), using the Outlook icon in the app list.

## Find your way around

Outlook on the web has the same layout as new Outlook for Windows. The main parts are:

- **The left bar**: icons for **Mail**, **Calendar**, **People** and other apps.
- **Folders**: your **Inbox**, **Sent Items** and other folders, plus any shared mailboxes you added.
- **New mail**: the button at the top left to start an email.
- **Settings**: the gear icon at the top right, where you set up [your signature](/m365-outlook-signature/), [automatic replies](/m365-outlook-out-of-office/) and other options.

Settings you change here also apply in new Outlook for Windows, because both use the same mailbox settings.

## When to use it

Outlook on the web is handy on a shared or borrowed computer, when the desktop app is not installed, or on the Business Basic plan, which Microsoft says gives access to Outlook through the web and phone apps rather than the desktop app. On a shared computer, sign out when you finish: click your picture at the top right and select **Sign out**.

## Common issues

### Is a link to outlook.cloud.microsoft safe?

Microsoft says any website that ends in cloud.microsoft is an official Microsoft product. Still, be careful with sign-in links in emails: when in doubt, type outlook.office.com yourself instead of clicking.

### Outlook on the web looks very basic in my browser.

Browsers that Microsoft does not fully support get a light version of Outlook on the web. Use an up-to-date Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Firefox or Safari.

### It opens my personal Outlook.com account instead of my work email.

Click your picture at the top right and sign out, then sign in with your work address. A separate browser profile for work keeps the two apart.
