# Share your screen in Google Meet

In a Google Meet meeting on a computer, you can show one browser tab, one window, or your whole screen to everyone.

## Present your screen

Open the file or slides you want to show before you start. Presenting a single tab or window keeps your emails and other windows private.

1. Join the meeting.
2. At the bottom, click **Share screen**.

3. Your browser opens its own sharing box. At the top, choose whether to share a tab, a window or your entire screen, then pick the one to show.
4. For sound from a video, keep tab audio on for a tab, or turn on **Also share system audio** for a window or screen.
5. Click **Share**.

Your camera stays on while you present, if it was on before.

## Stop or switch

You can stop at any time, or switch to another tab without stopping.

- To stop, click **Stop presenting** on the bar at the top of the meeting.
- To show a different tab, go to that tab and click **Share this tab instead** on the banner at the top.
- If someone else is already presenting, click **Share screen**, choose what to share, then **Present instead**. Their presentation pauses.

## Tips for a smooth presentation

A few habits avoid the most common problems.

- Share a tab or window rather than the Meet window itself, to avoid an endless mirror effect.
- Present Google Slides from a tab so you can move through the slides from Meet.
- Close personal tabs and turn off notifications before sharing your entire screen.
- If the meeting is being recorded, everything you present is in the recording. See [record a Google Meet meeting](/meet-recording/).

## Common issues

### The Share screen button is greyed out. Why?

The meeting host may have stopped others from presenting under Host controls, or your admin may have turned screen sharing off. Ask the host to let you present.

### People cannot hear the sound from my video.

Present a Chrome tab, which shares its sound by default. If you present a window or your whole screen, turn on Also share system audio before you click Share.

### On my Mac, screen sharing shows a black screen or a warning.

macOS must allow your browser to record the screen. Click Allow when asked. If you missed it, open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen & System Audio Recording, turn on your browser, then restart it.
