Is your school eligible for Google Workspace for Education?

Your institution is eligible if it is a government-recognised, accredited school, college or university that teaches students, and higher education institutions must also award degrees.

Who Google accepts

According to Google, eligible institutions:

are government-recognised, accredited schools that teach students, from primary and secondary schools to colleges and universities
have an active website for the institution
apply through a person who belongs to that institution

Google does not accept organisations that are not schools, even if they offer education. Examples include tutoring programmes, language schools, for-profit education companies, corporate training centres, museums, public libraries and research laboratories. A school that also runs a non-educational business must use a separate domain for it.

How Google checks your institution

Sign up on the Google Workspace for Education sign-up page, or submit the upgrade form from an existing Google Workspace admin account.
Verify that you own your domain in the Admin console, unless you bought the domain during sign-up or verified it before.
Give Google a scanned copy of your institution’s official accreditation document showing its educational status.
Give your name, role, and a contact email outside your Google Workspace account.

Google reviews each request before it approves the institution. Some services can be limited until the review is complete.

After approval, create your student and staff accounts and apply safety settings for student accounts.

Common issues

Can a tuition centre or language school get Google Workspace for Education?

No. Google lists tutoring programmes, language schools, for-profit education companies and corporate training centres as not eligible, even if they offer education.

Some services can be limited while Google reviews your Workspace for Education request. Contact us if a limit stays after Google approves your institution.
